How to search a room for hidden cameras and other devics

With online sources like Amazon and Ebay and a market flooded with cheap Chinese products.  The likelyhood that you will encounter a hidden camera or other device is high.  It might be meant for someone else or it could be used by someone at an AirBnB.  Are we just paranoid?  Here are a few examples:

Korean Motel secretly livestreamed 1.6k guests
Greek AirBnB
Carnival Cruise Room
Irish AirBnB
Planet Fitness tanning room
Starbucks bathroom
11% of AirBNB guests claim to have found a camera in the house they were staying at.

There are many more examples.  The problem exists if you travel, and the risk increases in AirBnB's.  But there are a few simple steps you can take to make sure some weirdo isnt spying on you.
The BBC did a video on it and a Kpop star was arrested for doing it.

1. Use the Fing app to scan the wifi network and see if any odd devices are connected.

2. Quickly look around the room(focus on the bathrooms and bedrooms) and look for anything out of place.
In a single room look for more than one smoke detector, usb wall plugins left in a plug, ect
You can also use a simple optical device to look for small camera lenses. The optical device flashes a red light and you look through a red lens to magnify the reflection of the small camera lens.
Check vents
Sprinklers not placed in line.  Sprinklers are on water pipes and should line up.
If there is an alarm clock in the room then unplug it and put it in a drawer. Most people will use their phones anyway.
2-way mirrors you can turn off the lights and press a flashlight(your phones light works) against it.  A normal window wont do anything, but a 2-way will allow you to see through to the void behind.  Another more simple(also makes you look less crazy) way is to press your fingernail against mirror. A normal mirror will have a gap(the thickness of the glass) between your nail and its reflection.  A 2-way mirror has the reflection material on the first layer and your thumbnail will be almost touching its reflection.

3. Use a thermal scanner.
You may have one of these for use on a house or just as a curiosity.  They are simple enough that they can connect to Android and iOS devices.  Thermal scanners work because small devices usually put off a significant amount of heat.  The scanner will let you easily see the temperature difference and find the device.

If you find a device and arent sure of what it is. Then use the internet to search the make and model of the device to see if it has recording capabilities if it is out in the open.

You never know what someone's motivation might be for surveilling an area. It could be purely defensive or completely depraved.  But using these simple steps and devices you can give yourself some piece of mind when you travel.
